School Closings Update: 2/27/2009
Commissioner Sheehan wanted to make sure everyone was kept abreast of what the city is doing regarding the possible school closures considered by the Orange County School Board. City staff has been in negotiations with School Board staff to determine the impacts - on the city, students, neighborhoods, transportation, etc. - these closures will potentially have. Below you will find an email we received yesterday from Linda Rhinesmith, Chief Planner for the City, outlining the latest details with an attachment providing information on all of the affected schools located within the corporate limits of the City of Orlando.
Commissioner Sheehan remains committed to urging the School Board to reconsider the closure of our neighborhood schools, particularly those that would adversely impact District 4 and our residents. She has reiterated to Superintendent Blocker and the School Board members that these community schools are vital to our neighborhoods and should be saved. As always, please don't hesitate to call or email if you have any questions or if there is anything else with which Commissioner Sheehan, Officer Young or I can assist your neighbors or you.
